Walter Godette, better known as Walt G, has had a love for music since he was a child. He would often sneak off to listen to his favorite records on his mom’s stereo or one of his uncles’ record players, and developed an appreciation for all kinds of music, but especially Jazz and Rhythm & Blues. At the age of 12, Walter found out that the Jazz great Cannonball Adderley grew up in his hometown of Tallahassee, Florida. He then learned to play the saxophone and joined the High School marching and concert bands while still in the sixth grade.

After high school, Walter went on to the School of Business and Industry at Florida A&M University, where he learned management and marketing skills. During his college years, Walter became a photographer and spent a lot of time back stage at the concerts that came to town. At one of these shows, he met L. L. Cool J’s manager and he encouraged Walter to get into artist management, and he started working with some of his talented friends.

The first song he worked on was the Florida classic GIVE ME A BOTTLE by Clay D and the Get Funky Crew. All of the artists and the producer on the song were all good friends of Walter’s, and he ended up promoting the song and managing a guy that was on the original version named Lil’ Shabazz.

While working for Mr. Douglass, he learned more about managing artists, promotions, marketing, and tours. The experience was invaluable and landed him a role with Magic Johnson when his started his entertainment companies from 1996 to 1999. After moving to Atlanta, Walt continued to do promotions for local acts some of his associate distributers in Florida.

As Walt says: “Thrill from the 69 Boyz introduced me to Mel Man, who helped them with promotions in Atlanta, but I found out later was also the President of Big Cat Records. I worked with Big Cat part-time at first and started working with them full-time in 2002. While working there, I started out on the street team doing promotions, then started helping with their digital media promotions, and eventually becoming their Director of New Media. This was a fancy way of saying I managed their Myspace pages, online reputation, email and PR distributions, and secured download and ringtone deals. Among other artists, we were best known for Gucci Mane’s “Trap House” album, Rasheeda’s “Georgia Peach” album and Khia’s “Nasti Muzic” album.”

Artist In Need (AIN) began in 2008 when our Facebook group reached 10,000 members. I started out as an A&R then moved up to Director of A&R, then Co-CEO and eventually CEO in 2011. Walk works with the business development team for Blue Pie Records on a day to day basis scouting for new talent and developing the AIN roster.
