Dave Sharp gets the Jazz Groove Love to flow to Ark in Ann Arbor this Thursday night in the USA. The night is the Sumkali Debut CD Release Party – With Special Guests Pandit Samar Saha and Madhumita Saha. Mixing the classical traditions and sounds of Indian music with the power and freedom of American jazz and funk is what is at the core of Ann Arbor based music group Sumkali. They have found their niche with a line-up of musicians as diverse as the instruments they play. The group, led by tabla player John Churchville has been performing in various forms for over 6 years at venues including the Michigan Theatre, Ann Arbor’s Top of the Park, the White Crow Conservatory of Music, and Kerrytown Concert House. Sumkali is celebrating the release of their debut C.D. and will be joined on stage by master tabla player Samar Saha on tour with vocalist and wife Madhumita Saha. Other band members include Dan Piccolo, (formely of Nomo), Dave Sharp, Scott Brady, Meeta Banerjee, Prashanth Gururaja, Vishrut Srivastava, Atmaram Chaitanya, and Mahesh Ganesan.
