Eedris first grabbed the public’s attention after joining the group The Remedies. This group included the likes of Tony Tetuilla and Eddy Montana, and enjoyed incredible success before they went their separate ways, with each member acting as a solo artist. In 2002, Eedris released his first solo album โPassโ, which was well received by music pundits. He followed it up with “Mr Lecturer”, which mainly focuses on the sexual harassment taking place in Nigerian Universities. In 2004 he dropped another album, that being of course โJaga Jagaโ, which was even more controversial than his previous ones. The title track is centered on the corruption and suffering in Nigeria. However, the song was banned on radio and television stations by the then-president, Olusegun Obasanjo. In 2005, the rapper launched his own record label known as Lakreem Music, and released his 4th album โLetter To Mr Presidentโ, an album which addresses Obasanjoโs criticisms on the song โJaga Jagaโ. Eedris has never been one to back down, and the fact that heโs still pushing the Jaga Jaga mantra after all these years truly shows that!
Itโs been a long time since Eedris gifted us with his landmark hit โJaga Jagaโ, and almost 20 years later, we finally have the sequel. Featuring the talent of Mr Raw and Madarocka Chi, this faithful retake on Jaga Jaga brings Eedris fans everything theyโd expect, considering how dire the world is even nowadays. Itโs sad to think about, but we arenโt going to have a perfect society โ and Eedris knows that. But he also knows we can do better than this. Luckily, he has just the thing to straighten out Nigeria. โJaga Jaga Reloadedโ is coming in hot along with the original “Jaga Jaga”, with a truth bomb combo that we havenโt seen the likes of in decades!
If a song is so good that it’s STILL in people’s minds decades later and even inspiring a sequel song with an all-star cast, that’s how you know that this is truly one for the ages. From 2004 to the 2020s, Eedris has been on people’s radars, and both iterations of Jaga Jaga, new and old, are to thank for that.
