Dave Sharpโs follow up to the acclaimed Secret 7 release โ7โ broadens his scope of music and musicians with his new album โWORLDSโ by producing an expansive soundscape with his brand of โWORLD JAZZโ music. Collaborations with Cheikh Lo from Senegal (Nonesuch/World Circuit), Parthiv Gohil from India (EMI India), Gayelynne McKinney (Detroit), Walter White (Detroit), Chris Codish (Detroit). Evan Perri (Detroit), Carolyn Koebel (Kalamazoo), Inrdrajit Chowdhury (New York), and Mehdi Darvishi (Iran) mark this project as a diverse collection of improvised rhythm and sound.
Recorded at Backseat Production with Jim Roll in Ann Arbor, MI, and in various studios around the world, โWORLDSโ began as a collaboration between bassist Dave Sharp and tenor saxophonist Chris Kaercher, who share a fascination with jazz and music from India and Africa, as well as sounds from New Orleans and the Middle East. During their critically acclaimed โJOURNEYโ concert series at Kerrtyown Concerthouse in Ann Arbor, MI, Sharp and Kaercher presented a different musical theme at each performance, including โJourney to Africa,โ โJourney to India,โ Journey to New Orleansโ and โJourney to the Middle East.โ Their critically acclaimed presentation of โJourney to Indiaโ at the 2011 Detroit Jazz Festival gave way to the recording and production of the new CD โWORLDSโ.
